New VW Phaeton

The New VW Phaeton is Volkswagen’s entry into the luxury sector of the market. The Phaeton uses the same floor plan and same 6.0 W12 engine as seen in the Bentley Continental with good effect. Questions were raised at launch as to whether VW could sell a car in this sector without having a premium badge, but with Bentley mechanicals, a good interior, excellent build quality, and prices well under the rest of the premium opposition from BMW and Mercedes, Volkswagen have done it.

VW Phaeton 3.0 TDI Diesel

The VW Phaeton 3.0 TDI diesel has recently been completely redesigned with a new common rail fuel injection system that makes it much more refined and economical. diesel clatter is banished, with only a hint of rattle from a cold start up. The 3.0 TDI proves the ideal match for the big Phaeton, giving plenty of effortless mid range pull, with 240 bhp which is enough to get the car from 0-60 in just over 8 seconds, and on to 147 mph. Fuel economy stays at a sensible 31 mpg. Like all models, The 3.0 TDI is available with an automatic gearbox only.

VW Phaeton 6.0 W12

The VW Phaeton 6.0 W12 has a technological masterpiece of an engine in place, wit the equivalent of 2 V6 engines joined together, giving a compact and lightweight design for such a big motor. Performance is epic, with 450 bhp and a massive 560 NM of torque wafting you along, the car will hit 60 in under 6 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155mph. This engine also sees use in the Bentley Continental, and you will actually see more of them than 6.0 Phaetons on British roads, it is such an exclusive and rare beast.

VW Phaeton Spec

Standard VW Phaeton Specification is excellent, with 17” alloys, chrome trim, LED rear lights, 4 wheel drive, Xenon headlights, eucalyptus wood trim, Vienna leather upholstery, 4 zone climate control, 190 watt sound system, 6 CD changer, air suspension, cruise control, automatic headlights and rain sensing wipers. Long Wheelbase versions get an extra 120mm legroom, sun blinds, a screen in the rear for operating their independent climate control, and a sunroof as std. Top spec 6.0 W12’s get 18” alloys, led daytime running lights, upgraded luxury leather seats, electric memory seats, heated and air conditioned front seats with massage function, laminated glass, heated steering wheel, and a power opening boot.
